Preventing Child Marriage, Faculty of Psychology UNY Holds Peer Educator Training Program in Gunungkidul

Wonosari, July 22–23, 2025 – The Faculty of Psychology, Yogyakarta State University (FP UNY), through one of its Community Service (PkM) teams, demonstrated active involvement in supporting efforts to prevent child marriage in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This initiative was реализed through a “Peer Educator Training for the Prevention of Child Marriage,” held at SMA Pembangunan 1 Wonosari, Gunungkidul, for two days on Monday–Tuesday, July 22–23, 2025.

The program was the result of a strategic collaboration between FP UNY and the Ma’arif Nahdlatul Ulama Educational Institution (LP Ma’arif NU) of Yogyakarta, as part of a cooperation agreement signed by the Dean of FP UNY, Dr. Siti Rohmah Nurhayati, M.Si., and the Chair of LP Ma’arif NU PWNU DIY, Dr. Tadkiroatun Musfiroh, M.Hum. The training also coincided with the commemoration of National Children’s Day 2025, which carried the theme “Great Children, Strong Indonesia Towards Golden Indonesia 2045.”

Aligned with the spirit of sustainable development within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5, the program emphasized the crucial role of young people in eliminating the practice of child marriage. During the training, participants received various capacity-building materials, including self-awareness, decision-making, effective communication, understanding gender issues and rights, and the impacts of child marriage.

The training was officially opened by the Dean of FP UNY and facilitated by Karsiyati, M.Psi.T., and Dr. Annisa Reginasari, M.A., with assistance from four co-facilitators. The activity was attended by 30 participants from several senior high schools and vocational schools in Gunungkidul Regency. In addition to material sessions, participants were involved in practical activities such as creating digital content and developing strategies to convey messages on child marriage prevention among their peers. At the end of the sessions, participants expressed positive impressions of the training.

Through this program, FP UNY hopes that the trained peer educators will become agents of change in their schools and communities, continuously promoting the importance of child protection for a better and more prosperous future.
