Strengthening Workplace Well-Being: Faculty of Psychology UNY Provides Psychological Support for Indonesian Migrant Workers in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, July 10, 2025 – The Faculty of Psychology, Yogyakarta State University, through its team of lecturers specializing in Industrial and Organizational Psychology (IOP), conducted a Community Service (PkM) program entitled “Strengthening the Work Happiness of Indonesian Migrant Workers in Malaysia,” in collaboration with the Guidance Center of the Special Branch Leadership of Muhammadiyah (PCIM) Malaysia. This activity represents a concrete form of concern for the psychological well-being of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) who are striving abroad, particularly in Malaysia.

Held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the PCIM Malaysia Guidance Center, the program was attended by Indonesian migrant workers who live and work in the area. In the opening remarks, a representative of PCIM Malaysia expressed appreciation for the attention given by the Faculty of Psychology UNY to the psychosocial issues faced by migrant workers.

The series of activities was designed to be interactive and participatory. It began with the delivery of core material on the concept of work happiness and the factors that influence it. Participants were encouraged to understand the importance of psychological balance in supporting both work performance and personal life. This was followed by educational games aimed at creating a relaxed atmosphere and building positive group dynamics.

Group discussions and interactive question-and-answer sessions provided space for participants to share experiences and challenges encountered while working in Malaysia. The participants’ enthusiasm was evident in their active involvement in discussions, games, and reflection sessions. At the end of the program, participants took part in a self-reflection session and formulated personal commitments to apply strategies that support their future work happiness. As a form of appreciation, the committee also provided door prizes for active participants, which further enhanced the positive and cheerful atmosphere throughout the activity.

The program was carried out by a team of IOP lecturers from the Faculty of Psychology UNY, consisting of Dr. Rosita Endang Kusmaryani, M.Si., Dyah Ayu Purwaniningtyas, M.A., Rilis Asterina, M.Psi., and R. Mahendra Wijaya Santoso, M.Psi. Through this activity, the Faculty of Psychology UNY continues to demonstrate its commitment to contributing to cross-border community empowerment based on psychological science. With a spirit of collaboration and social benefit, this program is expected to become a catalyst for further initiatives in supporting the well-being and work happiness of Indonesian migrant workers, as well as strengthening psychosocial support networks for Indonesian communities abroad.
