Public Lecture for Undergraduate Students: Strengthening the Role of Psychology in Disaster Preparedness through Collaboration between the Faculty of Psychology UNY and the Navy Psychology Service

Yogyakarta, 12 February 2026 – The Faculty of Psychology of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta organized a collaborative public lecture with the Navy Psychology Service, specifically designed for undergraduate psychology students. Held at the Teleconference Room, 4th Floor of the UNY Digital Library Building, the event formed part of practice-oriented learning and introduced the role of psychology in disaster and humanitarian contexts.
Speakers from the Navy Psychology Service highlighted the importance of mental readiness, psychological resilience, field assessment, and victim assistance during crisis and disaster situations. From a military psychology perspective, students gained practical insights into team coordination, discipline, and individual endurance as key elements of effective disaster response.
The event was attended by 233 undergraduate psychology students from the 2024 cohort, along with students from other faculties within UNY. The discussion session reflected strong enthusiasm for applied psychology in emergency and humanitarian settings.
Beyond the public lecture, collaboration between the Faculty of Psychology UNY and the Navy Psychology Service is also reflected in student internship programs. In 2024 and 2025, several students completed internships within the Navy Psychology Service environment, gaining direct professional experience in disaster response psychology, psychological support for personnel, and humanitarian services. Consequently, the institution has become one of the most preferred internship destinations for psychology students.
Through the implementation of public lectures and sustained internship collaboration, the Faculty of Psychology UNY reaffirms its commitment to preparing graduates for real-world challenges while promoting the contribution of psychology in strengthening individual and community resilience in Indonesia.
