DARMA WIJI: Early Clean & Healthy Lifestyle (PHBS) Education Through Interactive Learning

The DARMA WIJI program aims to instill Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat / PHBS) from an early age. Executed across SD Negeri Tanjung, SD Negeri Kempong, and SD Kanisius Promasan, the initiative engaged primary students from grades 1 through 6 in interactive, creative, and engaging sessions focused on proper handwashing and dental hygiene.
Organized by the PPK Ormawa team alongside Agenpsy volunteers, the event encouraged students to put healthy habits into direct practice. The activities began with team introductions, an outline of the program's objectives, and a pre-test to gauge the students' baseline knowledge of personal health and hygiene.
Tailored Learning and Creative Activities
Lessons on handwashing and dental care were delivered interactively using relatable daily scenarios, guided discussions, and active Q&A. To maximize engagement, activities were customized according to grade levels:
- Grades 1–3: Colored handwashing-themed artwork and built simple visual aids, including a "cavity hippo" craft.
- Grades 4–6: Collaborated in groups to design handwashing posters and educational wall magazines detailing proper tooth-brushing steps.
Demonstrations and Direct Practice
Students expressed their commitment by adding handprints to the DARMA WIJI banner. Following live demonstrations by the team, students practiced the correct handwashing and tooth-brushing steps together to reinforce muscle memory and practical understanding.
Student enthusiasm remained high throughout the event's interactive quizzes and discussions. To conclude the program, the team provided final reinforcement on routine hygiene and distributed educational booklets, tooth-brushing tracking calendars, and participation rewards.
Supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The DARMA WIJI program contributes to two primary global development targets:
- SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being): Fosters long-term health through early hygiene education and habit formation.
- SDG 4 (Quality Education): Delivers participatory, age-tailored learning experiences.
By combining instruction, creative crafts, live demonstrations, and direct practice, DARMA WIJI successfully created a collaborative learning environment for students, teachers, volunteers, and the PPK Ormawa team to build lasting health habits.
